Interstate travel is a bit dicey these days but our wanderlust can’t be extinguished and the need for more summer adventures is palpable. Thankfully, everything we need is right on our doorstep and we’ve got a plan that ought to scratch the travel itch. Proper Eye of the Tiger stuff around here.

Our plan to scratch the travel itch is a 4 day journey from Melbourne to the mountains via wine country on the return leg. Just shy of a 1000km round trip. We’ve got Ross to thank for the plan. This legend spun the blueprint for our trip in less time than it takes to sink a cold Panhead on a hot day on the tools. Here’s (kind of) how it went down:

“Look around you, my brothers and sisters” proclaimed Ross in a very bold, Gandalf-like manner, while the rest of us sweated over a Tassie alternative. “Follow me into the heart of Victoria’s epic alpine country”, pointing to the east like a prophet, “there, we shall satisfy our insatiable desire for moto exploration and the rejuvenating promise of the open road”. Yes, we thought, here’s a man who knows his way around and yes, we are your willing disciples. Lead the way, we said, lead us on an odyssey to Mount Baw Baw, Mount Buffalo and other dramatic sounding Mounts…

So there you have it, a Vic High Country trip with a roof over our head each night, cosy pubs after a long day in the saddle, family cook-ups, a support vehicle to carry gear and capture our escapade and not a single border crossing to stress over. Who’s keen?
